Vovi keeps the room alive.
30 to 60 minutes of real conversation in your target language. Vovi rides shotgun — feeding you a word when you’re stuck, gauging level, asking the right question to keep things moving.
ROOM · SPANISH · B1 · 12:34REC
YouHola. Me llamo Carmen.
···
Two ways to talk.
Every call has Vovi. How Vovi shows up depends on the room.
1-on-1 Calls
Your Vovi meets their Vovi
Two people learning the same language, practicing together. Each brings their own Vovi voice, and the two Vovis work together to guide the conversation, fill gaps, and keep you both speaking in your target language.
In group sessions (3–10 people), a single universal Vovi facilitates the entire call, gauging everyone's level, guiding discussion, and splitting students into breakout rooms when needed.
After a good call, add them. Schedule a follow-up. Build a circle of friends learning the same thing you are. The people you stumble with become the people you're fluent with.
Random match finds them. The friendships you keep are yours.

MEET VOVI
Vovi sits in on every call.
The friend who knows which call you should join, who you should talk to, and what you should focus on today. Heading to Mexico? Vovi finds you survival Spanish calls and native speakers who’ve been there.

— WHY VOVEA EXISTS
Conversation,
not curriculum.
Language opens doors to people, places, and parts of yourself you didn’t know existed. Vovea exists because real conversation shouldn’t be hard to find. No textbooks. No isolation. Just people who stumble through sentences and laugh when it goes wrong, with Vovi keeping the room alive.

No. If no one matches, Vovi runs a solo session with you instead. You’re never stuck waiting.
Free forever for chat with Vovi. Live calls start at $20/mo. See pricing above for full details.
Five: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and French. Spanish ships with both Castilian and Latin American variants. Portuguese ships with both European and Brazilian variants. You pick the variant you’re learning when you sign up.
Real conversation practice needs Vovi to be excellent in every language and variant it speaks — not just functional. We test our safety classifier, voice quality, and conversation depth per language and per regional variation before shipping that variant. Five well-tested languages serves learners better than twenty half-tested ones.
Yes. At launch, Vovi handles Castilian and Latin American Spanish as separate variants, and European and Brazilian Portuguese as separate variants. When you sign up you pick the variant you’re learning, and Vovi adapts its vocabulary, pronunciation, and cultural register accordingly.
We’re aiming at 20+ languages total. The next wave on our roadmap includes German, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and Russian. We add each language only when our quality bar is met, so we’re not committing release dates yet — but each one is in active development queue after launch.
italki is tutors-as-a-service. Tandem is a chat app. Vovea is a practice room you show up to — Vovi sits in and keeps it alive when conversation stalls.
Anyone 13 or older, anywhere in the world. Pick a language and a level. Show up.
Calls run up to 60 minutes. Most people do 30. You can stack two if you want a longer session.
